USGB Conventions

The Society holds two Conventions every year, normally on the first Sundays of April and October. (The April Convention will be a week earlier or later when the first Sunday in April is Easter Sunday).

The Conventions are very relaxed in nature and are a great opportunity to see some excellent performers as well as to meet and interact with other ukulele players from all over the country. The atmosphere is always very friendly.

All members are invited to play two songs in one of the concerts and backing is provided (if you wish) by our resident duo of keyboards and bass. Performances are usually videoed and a video of your performance may well appear on the USGB's YouTube channel and linked from the Videos page on this site.

Workshops

Where possible, the Conventions include a workshop for which there is no extra charge.

The amazing Peter Moss provided the workshop at the Spring 2024 Convention. The subject of the workshop was Chord Inversions.

At the Autumn 2023 workshop, we had the maestro of the ukulele, Andy Eastwood, presenting his ever popular "Focus on Formby" workshop.

Previous workshop presenters have included Matthew Quilliam, Opera-lele and Colin Tribe.

Location of Conventions

Conventions take place at Digswell Village Hall, Harmer Green Lane, Digswell, Welwyn, AL6 0AT.

Parking is available in the surrounding streets, or in the station car park about 100 yards away. (The station car park operates a Pay & Display system which will cost you 2 or 3 pounds for the day). There is also a station buffet available to the public via the station car park for those who arrive in need of immediate sustenance in the form of coffee and bacon butties.

For those who prefer to travel by train, there are regular trains from London and from the north stopping at Welwyn North railway station which is barely more than just across the road from our venue.
